After announcing the official list in the magazine in late May, on 14 September 2017, Forbes Vietnam continued to hold an important economic event in Ho Chi Minh City.
More than 450 delegates who are senior leaders of leading Vietnamese enterprises, many foreign billionaire entrepreneurs and international organizations attended the 2017 Business Forum with the theme "Embracing a Changing World", and in the evening of the same day, the 50 Best Vietnamese Listed Companies Award Ceremony took place solemnly.
The 50 honored enterprises are all large-scale ones holding more than 60% of the market capitalization of both stock exchanges and equivalent to 28% of GDP in 2016.
The assessment council of Forbes Vietnam based on audit data and professional competence to calculate and compare the compound annual growth rate on revenue and profit, return on equity and business growth for the period of 2012-2016. Basing on which, the council selected the best listed companies.
As the leading Port and Logistics operator in Vietnam, Gemadept was honored among the list for the second time by Forbes Vietnam. This, once again, affirms the endless effort of a pioneering enterprise in the industry that has coped with many difficulties and challenges during economic periods to embrace its mission of bringing sustainable values to all relevant parties as well as to contribute to the overall development of the country.
Also within the framework of the event, the 2017 Business Forum, titled "Embracing a Changing World", highlighted the importance of businesses for their “proactive change in the changing world". Recognizing the fact that the world is experiencing profound changes in all aspects of economy, politics, society, technology and environment, etc., enterprises should carefully consider and propose appropriate strategies while actively enhance self-capability to adapt to the drastic changes from the external environment in order to achieve growth goals.
At the global level, these changes encompass Brexit, the new US administration, the threat of war from North Korea, the rise of populism, terrorism, the industrial revolution 4.0, climate change, etc. Vietnam is not out of the orbit affected by all these factors. In addition, we have own difficulties of a growing economy and unrealized expectations as a result of TPP failure. However, when a door closes, another one opens; our country possesses outstanding advantages for growth opportunities in the coming time. In particular, the most important factors are the abundant and dynamic human resources that well adapting to changes, the highest GDP growth rate of Asia, increasing FDI inflow over the years, cooperation prospects with other potential markets around the world instead of focusing solely on the US through the TPP.
Facing such changes, opportunities and challenges, Gemadept has continued to strive so that the company will not only "embrace the changing world" but also be an agent of positive changes for its own growth in particular and for the prosperity of the nation in general.
