The narrow strip of Central Vietnam backed by the majestic Truong Son mountain range and facing the immense East Sea is home to many heroes and talents. Yet, such a beautiful piece of land has constantly been struck by natural disasters; the fierce drought was not over when the historic flood came suddenly engulfing villages, people and animals, sweeping away the livelihood of thousands of households and leaving them in utmost misery.
With the deepest sympathy to people in Central Vietnam who have suffered great losses in recent days and by the tradition of sympathy and solidarity, Gemadept Corporation promptly launched a fund raising campaign to support people affected by the calamity. Through the campaign, all management and staffs of the Company responded enthusiastically with the desire to encourage the spirit and share the burdens of those who are suffering. Aiming at quickly supporting people in need, on October 28th and 29th, the representatives of Gemadept coordinated with Thanh Nien Newspaper and local authorities to organize charity trips in Ha Tinh and Quang Binh provinces.
On October 28th, 15 cows (worth VND 12 million each) being considered as 15 "fishing rods" were donated to 15 poorest households in Vu Quang district (Ha Tinh province) by Gemadept Corporation, Thanh Nien Newspaper and Ha Tinh Provincial Youth Union. On the same day, the delegation visited 30 families with especially difficult circumstances in 6 communes of Vu Quang district, donating VND 3 to 5 million each.
The next day, October 29th, the delegation extended the charity trip to Quang Binh province donating to 289 households of Cao Xuan hamlet and 11 injured ones in the commune with VND 1 million each.
“A stitch in time saves nine”. The donations by cash and cows will help those in need have more food, basic necessities and funding to purchase plants and seeds, revive production and stabilize their living when the flood retreats.
Witnessing people’s great pain and loss, members of the delegation could not hold back their tears. Then, when seeing warm smiles on those stunned faces, all tiredness of the delegation seemed to evaporate.
The charity trips are under the social activity program regularly done by Gemadept. Each year, the Company holds fund raisings and volunteer support aiming at people affected by natural disasters throughout the country, the elderly, orphans, the disabled and poor students, etc. to share social burdens and take part in building a better life. /.
