The smart port model not only helping business exploit and operate ports to increase productively and efficiency, but also significantly saves time and costs as well as brings many benefits and outstanding values for customers. In addition, "smart port" also contributes long-term intangible values for environment and society when reducing energy consumption, reducing CO2 emissions.
The smarting and greening of seaports is a step to realize Gemadept’s efforts towards sustainable development. Located at a strategic location of the seaport cluster Cai Mep – Thi Vai, Gemalink deep-sea port – a joint venture between Gemadept corporation (75%) and CMA Terminals France (25%) – is a typical project for the model of a green port industrial urban area, serving for vibrant economic development of Ba Ria – Vung Tau in particular and the whole country in general.
After the operation of phase 1 in early 2021, Gemalink has ranked in the Top 19 global trading ports and belongs to a cluster of ports has been ranked 11th in the world in terms of operating efficiency by the World Bank in 2022.
Not only leading the deep-sea port in the country, capable of receiving Megaship generations, Gemalink also attracts attention by landscape and working environment designed as a green garden located in the estuary area is full of sunshine and wind. With the goal of building for model smart and green port, Gemalink is invested with leading advanced equipment with clean energy in the world with production capacity, service quality to meet the strictest requirements of international shipping lines and import-export company.
Join forces with other ports in the port and logistics ecosystem of Gemadept, Gemalink has deployed the pioneering “SmartPort” application in Vietnam market, which is highly appreciated by customers.
With the release of Gemalink, in resonance with other ports in the region, Vietnamese goods are directly connected to the US and EUROPE, without being transshipped via a third country, greatly saving transportation costs to importers and exporters, thereby increasing the competitiveness of Vietnamese goods in the international market.
After only 2 years of operation, with the occupancy factor of phase 1 reaching more than 90% this year, Gemalink and Gemadept’s port system are contributing strong imprints to the development flow of the country’s economy and actively contribute “greening” the environment, society.

Gemadept Dung Quat international port has been built as the Eco-port model
Gemadept Dung Quat international port, located in the bay of Dung Quat – trade gateway for Dung Quat economic zone and for nearby provinces – an outstanding green port.
Gemadept’s vision to 2025 that builds this port to become the first Eco-port in the middle of Vietnam, contributing to raising public awareness of environmental protection, safety and energy saving quantity. Accordingly, Gemadept Dung Quat international port is developed based on the criteria of green economic growth; apply environment management system – occupational safety and health – ensure seaport security (HSSE). Dung Quat has earned the Certificate of Occupational Health and Safety Management System according to ISO 45001-2018 and Environmental management system ISO 14001:2015 issued by the General Department of Quality Measurement.
With the motto “Eco port – Value for tomorrow”, Gemadept Dung Quat international port in particular and the whole Gemadept’s port system from South to North in general are working with the Government and the world community to protect sustainable green for the next generations.
Beside the advanced seaports, Gemadept continuously put into operation green energy projects on Gemadept’s logistics system. In early 2021, a rooftop solar power project with a total capacity of 4.8 MWp has been installed at Mekong Logistics Cold Storage – Can Tho province (a joint venture between Gemadept and Minh Phu Corporation) was put into operation. This renewable energy system assumes the role of providing a large amount of electricity for the demands of operation and exploitation of this largest-scale cold storage in Southeast Asia, helping to significantly save grid electricity costs and very environmentally friendly at the same time.
In the coming time, Gemadept will continue to replicate the clean and green energy model for company’s ports and warehouses, company’s ports and logistics projects, actively contributing to reducing gas emissions and protecting the environment, saving operating and exploitation costs, aiming to develop a greener, smarter, more efficient and sustainable.
